This is a hard one you can tell this is an old buck and probably past his prime his antlers aren’t going to be getting any bigger and probably they will decrease in size every year. Do you take him out of the herd or do you hope for a bigger buck? Tell us your thoughts do you shoot or pass?

I honestly think that buck is not all that old. I could be wrong but, there is not a definitive crease along his jugular which would indicate at least five years of age. He's a nice buck. Not a "Trophy" in many eyes but, would you take a look at those backstraps?! They look delicious! I'd shoot him with my bow. Probably pass on him for the opening weekend of rifle season if I had the whole season off. If it were through the week it would probably depend on how much deer movement I've been seeing and if I already had deer meat in the freezer. If it was the last weekend I'd take him for sure.

This buck according to the site I got it from is a 6 ½ year old that just didn’t have good genetics and he had been run off the main area of their farm. He doesn’t have all the indicators of an old buck. He has very little mass like tom said he’s missing the crease in his jugular. But he does have dark tassels and a dark forehead. The more ruts a buck goes through the darker they will be.
